HerbalismBuilding a Home Apothecary: Ten Herbs Worth KeepingSclerology: The Story in the Whites of the Eyes

Sclerology is the traditional study of the sclera, the white of the eye, and the fine network of lines and colors that appear within it. Where iridology reads the colored iris, sclerology turns to the white that surrounds it, which practitioners have long observed as a changing, responsive surface.
At the Vitalist Healing Traditions Society, sclerology is a companion practice to iridology, held with the same care and honesty about its limits.
A changing surface

Unlike the iris, whose deep structure is largely stable, the markings in the sclera are understood in the tradition to shift over weeks and months. Traditional practitioners read these fine lines, their direction, color, and curve, as reflections of where the body may be carrying strain or asking for support.
What a sclera reading looks at
The lines and their paths
The presence, direction, and shape of the fine vessels are the heart of a reading, always interpreted in the context of the whole person.
Color and clarity

Shifts in the tone and clarity of the white are read as gentle signals about vitality and the body's current terrain.
What sclerology is not
Sclerology does not diagnose disease and cannot identify any specific condition. Persistent redness, pain, or changes in the eye are medical matters and belong with an eye doctor or physician without delay. As a wellness practice, sclerology speaks to tendency and terrain, never to pathology.
How we use it at the Society

We place a sclera reading beside iridology, facial diagnosis, your history, and your goals. From that fuller picture, and a Foundations Map reading, we offer gentle, individualized suggestions, always in your hands.
